Marble is a hard crystalline metamorphic rock formed by altering limestone, dolomite or serpentine sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium carbonate (calcite). Under extreme heat and pressure ( low grade metamorphism) Because of impurities such as graphite, pyrite, ilmenite, marble ranges in colour from mainly white or grey to black, green, pinks and reds. Because marble is a natural material, its make-up varies enormously from one type to another, and even in different areas within the same piece of marble. Generally marble is named after the place it was quarried or from the actual colour. Marble is used internally and externally on floors, walls, counter tops and building facades. All marbles are particularly susceptible to acid damage, making acid rain a significant problem. It is therefore imperative to clean all marble with a neutral or mild alkaline cleaner only and to seal or treat with the correct impregnator or sealer. Marble is available in blocks, tiles, slabs and cladding either polished, honed, tumbled or natural.

Travertine is a sedimentary banded compact rock variety of limestone, formed along streams particularly around hot or cold springs. Calcium carbonate is deposited when evaporation of the water leaves a solution of calcite. Travertine usually has voids pores and cavaties formed by water and gases during compression over time.
Travertine is mostly available in colour from cream to beige. Travertine is used internally and externally on floors, walls and building facades. All travertine is particularly susceptible to acid damage, making acid rain a significant problem. It is therefore imperative to clean all limestone with a neutral or mild alkaline cleaner only and to seal or treat with the correct impregnator or sealer. Travertine is available unfilled (natural) or factory filled (smooth). Travertine is available natural, honed, tumbled or polished.

All limestone is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium carbonate (calcite). The primary source of the calcite in limestone is most commonly calcified remains of microscopic marine organisms deposited on ocean floors forming coral reefs. Because of impurities such as clay, sand, organic remains, iron oxide and other materials, many limestones exhibit different colours ranging from dark grey and mustard to brown, pink, yellow and creamy white. Limestone is a much softer stone than marble or travertine and as such is better suited as wall cladding or for low traffic flooring areas. Limestone is used internally and externally on floors, walls and building facades. All limestones are particularly susceptible to acid damage, making acid rain a significant problem. It is therefore imperative to clean all limestone with a neutral or mild alkaline cleaner only and to seal or treat with the correct repellents or sealer. Limestone is available in blocks, tiles and cladding either polished, honed or natural.
