These tiles usually comprise a base of cement containing an aggregate of granite chips (concrete) topped with a layer of unpigmented or pigmented cement. This layer may vary in thickness from a few millimetres to a couple of centimetres. These tiles may also be made entirely from the pigmented cement containing a fine sand aggregate. The tiles are cast in moulds and the walking surface may be cast smooth or may be textured to create a rougher surface. Cement tiles vary considerably in porosity depending on manufacturing methods and formulations. Certain cement tiles may be pre-sealed to protect against grout staining during installation. Cement tiles require sealing to protect against surface wear and tear, staining as well as chemical attack from acids.

Oxided Cement Floors
Oxided cement floors are either floors where powdered pigment has been added to the cement or concrete mix and placed and finished in one pour or are overlays of pigmented modified cement placed as a thin 3- 10 mm layer over existing concrete floors or screeds. Most of the pigments used are iron oxides which is why most oxided floors are earthy colours. Oxided cement overlays can be further enhanced by stamping, imprinting or embedding.

Industrial Concrete Floors
Concrete is a construction material made up of mainly water, Portland cement, sand and other cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag cement and aggregates (generally gravel, limestone granite or agate.) Portland cement usually in powdered form acts as a binder when mixed with water and aggregate and hardens after mixing through a process known as hydration. Terrazzo
Terrazzo tiles may have a base of concrete similar to that of a cement tile, but the topping comprises a white or pigmented cement based body with an aggregate of marble or agate chips of varying size. The cement base and aggregate may also vary considerably in colour. After casting and setting the walking surface of the terrazzo tile is ground flat and then polished to a greater or lesser degree to provide either a smooth, shiny surface or a rougher finish. Terrazzo may also be cast insitu, in slabs to provide a seamless surface. Terrazzo is extremely durable and hard wearing but requires sealing to protect against surface damage from acids and staining.
